Bites Mobile Application Design
About
Combining two of the most popular apps in the app store Instagram and Yelp, Bites is a mobile application that allows you to post images, write reviews, and blog about your experience at a particular place. Bites allows you to view popular recommendations from restaurants, contact frequent visitors, and search for restaurants around you.
The application is set up similarly to Instagram having the navigation bar at the bottom allowing you to toggle through your feed and homepage, the search bar, notifications, and creating a post. I wanted this app to be as functional as possible showcasing real reviews and real meals.
The Design Process
Visual Research
Visual research began by comparing the interface design of similar existing applications. The use of color, typography, and iconography established among other applications acted as a guide to see what works best and what should be included in Bites.
User Research
A competitive analysis of similar applications was drawn to understand what features potential users would want within Bites. The competitive analysis consisted of six applications that centered on the general purpose of serving the food-loving community.
Personas
Three user personas were developed to allow me to identify potential users and key features they would be interested in. Each persona includes a short biography, behaviors and goals, personality traits, and technology uses and abilities.
Wireframes
The wireframes created were a jumping-off point of how the application will look and function. Based on the personas developed it was important to make sure that the application was simple to use with easy access to all of its features.
Interface Design
The interface was designed based on the use of color psychology. The food industry typically incorporates the colors yellow and red in its brand to evoke hunger. The decision to utilize a bright orange color was chosen for its association with joy, creativity, and freshness.
Prototype
The prototype incorporates the newly established information architecture and interface design. The goal of the prototype was to provide users with a physical example of what the final application will look and work like.

Generate Reviews
Review restaurants by posting photo evidence reviews of meals you have enjoyed around the world.
View Menus
View the menu of thousands of restaurants and scroll through their popular dishes and frequent visitors.
