Tiger Protection Program Website Design

About

Modeled after Tigers in America and Big Cat Rescue, the Tiger Protection Program is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about tiger extinction. This project was a collaborative effort with the goal of creating an organization that raised awareness through an event. The Tiger Protection Program’s awareness event was the Tiger Trail 5K, a race that the entire family can enjoy whether they are participants or spectators.

To promote the Tiger Protection Program as well as the Tiger Trail 5k, we designed a website and created promotional material including a poster and postcard. Instead of using typical orange and black colors of a tiger throughout the material, we used rich green colors to promote keeping tigers in the wild. To make sure we included all the necessary information, we conducted several personas of potential site visitors.

The Design Process

Visual and User Research

Research began by identifying what current challenges tigers are facing in the wild. We then researched multiple animal protection organization’s websites as well as existing tiger-specific protection organizations. The research conducted gave us insight into what to include on the site and what the overall tone should be.

Interface Design

Each team member created a potential mood board, color palette and vision for the site. Based on the options presented, the team moved forward with the brand vision of a green jungle theme to exemplify what keeping tigers protected in the wild would look like.

Personas

Based on the site objective, three user personas were established. The personas created helped the team to understand who will most likely be visiting the site and what they will most likely be interested in. This allowed the team to identify key components to be displayed on the site.

Wireframes

The team wanted to make sure that the site was easy to navigate and had a lot of imagery to exemplify the need for viewers to donate. The navigation of the site was inspired and developed based on other existing animal conservation websites.

Prototype

The overall design and tone of the website was designed based on the previous research conducted. The final Tiger Protection Program website was hand-coded by the team utilizing HTML and CSS.

Promotional Design

The promotional material includes an event poster and postcard. The event poster was designed to be 17’’ x 11’’ to highlight the organization's fundraising event, The Tiger Trail 5k. The postcard was designed to be 5.5’’ x 4.25’’ to inform people about the event as well as be an invitation to register.
